Dowdens Group 'Lifestyle Program' 2nd Anniversary14/08/2013
August 2nd 2013 was the second anniversary of the Dowdens Group 'Lifestyle Program'.
The Dowdens Group 'Lifestyle Program' promotes a lifestyle balance that supports our employees and helps manage their career and ambitions on one hand and their health, happiness, leisure and family on the other.
Over the past two years the 'Lifestyle Program' has held monthly morning teas for Dowdens Group employees which have raised over $15,000 for many deserved local charities, including: Jeans for Genes Day, Pink Ribbon Day (Breast Cancer), Movember, The Leukaemia Foundation, Mackay Base Hospital - Children's Ward, Mackay Animal Rescue Society (M.A.R.S), Mackay SES, and the Bundaberg flood victims.
At the 2nd Anniversary morning tea the Dowdens Group officially launched the Central Queensland Institute of TAFE (CQ TAFE) Bio-Diesel Silent Auction.
Local business representatives, students and faculty from CQ TAFE along with the Mayor of Mackay Regional Council, Cr Deirdre Comerford were in attendance to celebrate this Dowdens Group milestone.
CQ TAFE together with local businesses, including Dowdens Pumping & Water Treatment, LogiCamms Ltd, Mackay Regional Council, Hahn Environmental Services, Rio Tinto, Southern Queensland Steel, North Queensland Cleaning & Paints and Atlas Steels have sponsored a unique training program in engineering for high school students.
The program was established to give students real project experience through being involved in the construction of a bio-diesel plant as a part of their engineering training.
The bio-diesel plant has combined the latest technology to develop a bio-fuel refinery capable of producing up to 240 litres of carbon neutral bio-diesel per hour out of Mackay's waste cooking oil. This is truly a sustainable fuel, and an environmentally friendly way to help clean up the environment and produce fuel.
The fuel produced will be supplied to Mackay Regional Council for use in their fleet of trucks. Fuel will also be supplied to local charities via the Dowdens Group 'Lifestyle Program'.
Each month a 44 gallon drum of the CQ TAFE produced bio-diesel will be on display at one of three Dowdens Group businesses here in Mackay (Dowdens Pumping & Water Treatment, MSS Powered Equipment & McGinns) where members of the public and customers alike will be able to bid via the silent auction for a chance to win the drum containing more than 200 litres of bio-diesel.
All monies raised each month will go directly to the Dowdens Group 'Lifestyle Program' charity of the month.
